The Importance of Printers

During the Middle Ages, books were written meticulously by hand and were extremely rare. Announcements were written on a single scroll or poster and read to the masses by the town crier or placed in the town square so everybody would have an opportunity to read the message it contained. The advent of the printing press in 1440 changed this, allowing printed documents to be mass produced for distribution. Education availability did not advance as fast, leaving many people illiterate and not able to take advantage of the newly plentiful documentation.

As humanity moved to modern times and literacy became the standard, printers allowed information to be duplicated and sent wherever it could be received. Newspapers allowed people to keep up with the latest events. Books became plentiful and available everywhere. Political movements started to use printers to distribute ideological and campaign literature. The printing press gave people freedom, allowing them to commit their ideas to paper to share with like minded people. The Revolutionary War was pushed into overdrive when Thomas Paine made copies of his “Common Sense” pamphlet which stoked the fires of revolution in the populace. The slavery abolition movement gained steam when Harriet Beecher Stowe published “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” forcing people all over the country to pick a side on the slavery issue and ultimately helping to lead to the American Civil War.

With advances in technology, printing became simpler, cheaper, and more creative. In the 20th century, print shops opened up that could make hundreds or thousands of copies of a document in a very short period of time. Graphics became available that could make almost any kind of character or picture imaginable. Photographs could be integrated into a document seamlessly. Flyers, posters, pamphlets, periodicals, books, newspapers, reports, and any other type of document could be created at will. Information could be distributed in unlimited amounts to any location imaginable.

In the latter part of the 20th century, the home printer became a standard peripheral device for the home computer. Every home with a computer has the option of connecting a printer that can print anything from letters to homework to pictures. With printer devices readily available and advanced software that makes the most complicated visual graphics easy to do, there are no longer any limits to the physical dissemination of information. One person can create a complicated flyer or poster with text and pictures and hand out thousands of copies. A teenager running for class president can create professional looking posters at home and campaign flyers that might have taken a print shop several days and lots of money to create 30 years ago. A procrastinating husband can print up a customized anniversary card for his wife at the very last minute and appear as thoughtful as somebody who searched for weeks for the perfect card at the stationary store.

The printer has been an important tool in the evolution of human civilization. Today it is taken for granted though the average person can now perform every function that a print shop was required for in the not-too-distant past.

Small Business Savings

Small businesses are the lifeblood of the American economy. It is estimated that there are approximately 22 million small businesses in the United States and this number continues to grow as more employees are being laid off from their jobs and choose to start their own business.

There is much profit potential in small businesses and the financial benefit is one of the reasons most often cited for striking out on one’s own. However, there is also risk in a small business, especially in the start up years when funding is often tight.

Successful small businesses keep their eyes on the bottom line right from the beginning. They have a solid grip on their expenses and know how to shave money from unnecessary costs. They understand the difference between an investment and an expense and know how to focus on the former and cut down the latter.

Even expenses like office supplies can make a huge difference to the bottom line if they are not reigned in. Finding the best prices on office supplies can often be a challenge and many small business owners simply default to their local office supply store to get most of the items they need.

When it comes to thermal paper rolls for point of sale printers and cash registers, the local store is often not the best option. Finding the right paper roll for the machine can be a challenge and involve digging through piles of paper roll boxes looking for the model number of the business machine. Because floor space is expensive and limited in these stores, paper rolls for only some of the most popular business machines are stocked and business owners often finds that they have to special order their paper in, which can be expensive.

Buyrolls.com is an economical and time-saving alternative for purchasing paper rolls for cash registers, POS receipt printers and ATM machines. Because Buyrolls.com doesn’t have to pay for display space in large retail stores, it can offer a huge selection of thermal and multi-ply paper rolls that are approved by major manufacturers. They carry hard-to-find sizes as well and make the search easy with their well-designed website. Buyrolls.com gives discounts on case purchases, saving the small business owner even more money.

Small business owners also save time by shopping through Buyrolls.com’s website. Rather than having to drive to the office supply store to even find out if they carry a certain size of paper, they can search the Buyrolls.com site and place an order immediately to be shipped directly to the company’s doorstep. Customer service specialists are also available by telephone to answer questions or help with the ordering process.

Saving money is critical to the success of a small business. Finding solutions that save both time and money place a business at the top of its class.
