For high end phones such as Apple’s iPhone and the RIM’s Blackberry are normally only available with long term service contracts, but now UK cellular service provider Orange is offering the Blackberry on a Pay as You Go plan, the company announced in a January 29th press release. While this might be of little interest in the US, Orange UK’s Director of Pay as You Go, Pippa Dunn, notes that Pay as you Go is the popular cell service option in the UK “with nearly two thirds of UK mobile customers now using pay as you go.”
With this announcement, Orange becomes the first and only cell provider in the UK to offer the Blackberry smart phone on a pay as you go basis. The plan is available for users who purchase the Blackberry Pearl 8120 Indigo from Orange. The Indigo model is made available to Orange exclusively by RIM. Orange is offering the phone at 145 pounds with the customer’s choice of their “Animal” Pay as You Go plans which include messaging, email and web browsing services.
