The 2009 / 2010 Fall and Winter Shoe Fashion Trend Report

Almost every woman loves to look stylish. Most women, however, do not want to spend a fortune trying to keep up with the latest fashion trends. With the bad economy, bills to pay, and family to take care of, many women are reluctant to spend much money on themselves. Luckily, there is an easy and affordable way to update your wardrobe without having to max out your credit card limit.

By updating your shoes, you can easily give last year’s wardrobe a fresh new look. Because your shoes can be worn with multiple outfits, just a simple new pair or two of shoes can do wonders for your clothing selection. Shoes are also a great investment because they are long lasting. When they do start to show signs of wear, you can always have them repaired or refurbished for less than the cost of replacing the shoes. You can find a shoe repair shop near you or even use an online resource.

As with most seasons, there are a lot of styles and varieties of shoes to choose from to complete your Fall and Winter look. Below are some trend observations for this year.

Fall and Winter Shoe Color Trends – This year, the fashion trend for shoe color is anything dark. Black, of course is always in, but do not be afraid to try the deep hues of green, dark reds, midnight blues, cognac browns, and deep, dark purples or violets. This is great news too because dark colors are easy to work with and will pair nicely with most any clothing item you already have in your wardrobe.

Fall and Winter Shoe Heel Trends – The popular heel style this fall and winter is the spiky stiletto… the higher the better. This is a heel style trend that has been around for a while and does not appear to be going away any time soon. But the spiky stiletto heel may not be a comfortable or practical option for lots of women. Do not fret, the spiky stiletto heel is not the only heel option out there. You can always go with a shorter heel, even the ultra low kitten heel. Just make sure that the heel on the shoe you choose to purchase is not a blocky or chunky style heel like those of the late nineties or your shoe will look dated.

Fall and Winter Shoe Detail Trends – Shoes with lots of detail are in style this fall and winter. This makes sense if you look at the highly detailed sandals and flats of this past spring and summer. If lots of detail does not go with your personal taste, do not be alarmed because the shoes of fall and winter are not as heavy on the detailing. Fall and winter shoes will be seen with lots of textures, fringe, and other subtle pieces of flair. When choosing a pair of shoes to purchase for this fall and winter, do take care not to choose something outrageously detailed or over the top. A wild looking shoe, no matter how trendy at the moment, will not have much longevity. In fact, a shoe like this may not even make it to the next year.

A Handbag for Every Occasion

A Handbag for Every Occasion

Most women carry a handbag, commonly called a purse, on a daily basis. Of the handbag carrying women, most of them have multiple handbags. Why do women need so many different kinds of handbags, you may ask. There are a variety of different handbags all suitable for different occasions.

The smallest and classiest of all handbags is the clutch. A clutch is usually long and rectangular and does not have a handle. It is meant to be “clutched” in your hand or under your arm. Clutches are often designed to be worn with formal wear or evening gowns. They are not roomy handbags and typically will only hold the essentials for a night out on the town.

A less formal and more practical handbag is a tote. A tote is a medium to large bag with two straps that is mean to be carried over the shoulder. A tote can masquerade and multitask better than any other bag. Moms can stash their wallet, cell phone, keys, diapers, and a toy or two in a good tote. Tote bags can also be assigned specific tasks like book bags or beach bags. They can be very casual and made from mesh or canvas, or they can be more formal and long lasting when made from fine leather or a top designer like Coach or Gucci.

A satchel is a popular handbag for young women. Satchels have a small handle and are meant to be carried on your arm instead of on your shoulder. Since satchels are meant to be carried on the arm, they are often smaller in size and are not a great choice for women who carry a lot of items in their handbag.

Duffel bags are primarily used for travel or sports and are the most casual bag of the bunch. From a fashion perspective, most women would not carry a duffel bag on a daily basis unless they make frequent trips to the gym.

Messenger bags have a long strap and are meant to be worn across the body. Messenger bags are a perfect handbag for the working woman and can be used instead of a briefcase or computer bag. Messenger bags come in all shapes and sizes and are compartmentalized enough to carry work documents, laptop computers, schoolbooks, and even your personal items. Messenger bags are also a popular bag choice for students as a more fashionable replacement for the more traditional backpack.

Another type of bag that is meant to be worn across the body, like the messenger bag, is the sling bag. A sling bag is very similar to a messengar bag, but is less industrial. A sling bag is typically smaller and less utilitarian. It is designed to carry personal items like a wallet, keys, cell phone and perhaps some cosmetics. If you like the over the body strap of a messenger bag, but do not need to carry books or computers around, then a sling bag would be a great choice for you. They are particularly useful when traveling as they are easy to carry and keep your hands free.

With the wide variety of handbags available, it should be easy to see why women need so many different kinds of bags. There really is a perfect bag for any occasion.
